Concussions/Mild TBIs: Early Intervention to Achieve the Best Outcomes

Elizabeth Sandel, MD, Medical Director, Paradigm Catastrophic Care Management
Deborah M. Benson, PhD, ABPP, Associate Vice President, Clinical Services, Paradigm Catastrophic Care Management

Webinar Description

Concussions—or mild traumatic brain injuries—can be extremely challenging to diagnose and treat due to variability in symptoms, inadequate treatment, and other factors, such as medical, psychosocial, and environmental. They can also delay or limit recovery from other work-related injuries, impacting functional independence and return to work efforts.

In this webinar, our Paradigm clinical experts will talk about how proactive management, including early intervention, appropriate provider identification, and evidence-based treatment approaches can mitigate the long-term disability and financial impact of these injuries. We will discuss clarifying the diagnosis, facilitating appropriate medical, psychological, and rehabilitative care and follow up, and driving to functional outcomes through a systematic, biopsychosocial model.

Leading the discussion will be Dr. Elizabeth Sandel, one of the nation’s foremost experts in brain injuries and a board certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine. Dr. Sandel is the author of “Shaken Brain: The Science, Care, and Treatment of Concussion” (Harvard University Press, 2020). Dr. Sandel will be joined by Dr. Deborah Benson, a board certified rehabilitation psychologist and co-editor of “Acquired Brain Injury: An Integrative Neuro-Rehabilitation Approach” (Springer, 2007).

Join us as we take a unique look at this topic and share how targeted clinical expertise and a specialized approach is necessary to diagnose and treat concussions/mild traumatic brain injuries.
