Racing to Excellence: 2026 Catastrophic Clinical Summit Recap

As the home of Churchill Downs, Louisville is a place that knows about performance and perseverance. That’s what made it a natural host location for Paradigm’s 2026 Catastrophic Clinical Summit.

From October 16-18, more than 500 Paradigm clinicians, management team members, sponsors, and partners gathered at the Omni Louisville Hotel to explore this year’s theme: “Racing to excellence. Delivering outcomes. Bettering lives.”

As Paradigm’s premier educational event, the Summit is a chance to connect, celebrate, and sharpen the tools and strategies that keep catastrophic care moving forward. Staying ahead of the latest practices and trends is how we continue to deliver the best outcomes for the clients and injured workers we serve.

2026 Catastrophic Clinical Summit by the numbers:

  • 500+ attendees
  • 3 days of education and team building
  • 13 general sessions, plus 5 medical director sessions
  • 58 sponsors
  • 1 unforgettable evening at Churchill Downs

A powerful start: vision, mindset, and grit
After the welcome and company update, keynote speaker Scott Burrows opened the Summit Friday morning with an inspiring message about vision, mindset, and grit.

In 1984, Scott was just 19 when a car accident left him paralyzed from the chest down. Overnight, he went from playing college football and competing in kickboxing championships to being told he would never walk again.

In his speech, Scott shared how three attributes—vision, mindset, and grit—carried him through years of intensive therapy to achieve a seemingly impossible goal: walking again. He later applied that same drive to finishing college, building an international business, and writing a bestselling book.

Through his story and insights, Scott gave attendees a window into how they can help preserve hope and build resilience for injured workers during one of the hardest chapters of their lives.

Learning and leading
Education is at the heart of the Summit. And this year’s sessions touched on every part of the care journey, including:

The injuries. Physicians and specialists discussed some of the most complex claims our teams manage, from traumatic brain injuries with multiple trauma to new therapies in burn care.

The people behind the claims. Paradigm Medical Director Hassan Moinzadeh, MD, PhD, discussed the behavioral health approaches that can help overcome the psychosocial barriers to recovery while Patsy Nickle, VP of Business Development at the Jimmy Simpson Foundation, shared the challenging choices that follow a catastrophic injury to build a new life and home.

The road to more independence. Sessions on continuity of care from acute to post-acute rehabilitation and on navigating the home modification process gave case managers a practical playbook to follow.

The tools of the trade. Our teams looked toward the future with sessions on using Microsoft Copilot in complex case management and the growth strategy behind our newest client partnerships.

Meanwhile, our medical directors ran their own track, sharing best practices and tips for success and covering topics such as how AI is changing the way we work.

Presentations during 2026 CAT Summit and audience participation

A night at Churchill Downs
A visit to Louisville wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Churchill Downs. On Friday night, attendees headed to the home of the Kentucky Derby for the Summit reception, with time to connect outside of the day’s sessions. A bugler brought a touch of Derby tradition to the evening, while attendees also had the chance to meet a racehorse trackside.

Giving back
The CAT Summit also continued its tradition of supporting Kids’ Chance of America. Meghan Chisholm, Paradigm’s Kids’ Chance liaison, shared an update on the organization and its work supporting the children of workers who have been seriously or fatally injured on the job.

Attendees joined in the effort through a hat and fascinator-making event hosted by Comp-X, contributing approximately $1,800 to Kids’ Chance. Combined with a $10,000 contribution from Paradigm and Comp-X, the activity gave the Summit community another meaningful way to support an organization that makes a difference for families in workers’ compensation.
