Case study: Comprehensive Pain Management Network

Case history

After an injury on the job, the female associate had lower back pain that wasn’t alleviated. The treatment plan before Paradigm’s involvement included two separate rounds of medications and physical therapy, along with chiropractic care. The associate eventually had to stop working.

Paradigm’s plan

The associate was referred to Paradigm Specialty Networks to find a solution that could get her back to work. An in-network pain management specialist ordered an MRI of the associate’s lower lumbar spine and performed range of motion testing, which resulted in a diagnosis of lumbar protrusion with radiculopathy.

Network-managed intervention

The provider took a conservative approach, administering a single epidural steroid injection, versus launching into surgical intervention.

A positive outcome

At her post-injection appointment, the associate had no residual pain, required no additional epidural injections, and returned to her regular full-time job.

Length of time with injury before referral: 1 year, 45 days
Length of Paradigm’s pain management network treatment: 37 days
