Case study: Comprehensive Pain Management Network

Case history

After a fall on the job, the associate started having low back pain, as well as right lower extremity pain and paresthesias. His treatment included therapeutic intervention, passive modalities, and medication management. And while he remained on full-duty status with his job, he continued to experience “knife-like” and “pressure-like” pain, reporting severity as 6/10 on the numeric pain scale.

Paradigm’s plan

The associate was referred for a pain management consultation with a Paradigm pain management specialist who reviewed his MRI and performed range-of-motion testing. The specialist delivered diagnosis of lumbosacral radiculitis, lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus, and muscle spasms.

Network-managed intervention

The physician recommended one to two lumbar epidural injections. Though the associate responded well to the first injection, he did have some lingering pain so a second injection was approved.

A positive outcome

At his two-week post-injection check up, the associate noted no residual pain and no further appointments were needed.
