Results

Paradigm dramatically outpaces industry benchmarks. For catastrophic injuries, Paradigm achieves five times better medical outcomes and lowers total medical and indemnity costs by 36%. For legacy cases, we improve medical results by 37% and reduce large loss reserves by 29%. And for pain cases, we return 84% of early intervention pain cases and 34% of chronic pain cases to work and get more than 50% of the patients completely off narcotics. This results in an improved quality of life for patients and their families.

Catastrophic Medical Outcomes
Milliman, Inc., the nation’s leading actuarial and consulting firm, recently confirmed what our clients have known for years, Paradigm achieves superior results. Milliman claim consultants Robert Briscoe and Christine Fleming conducted an independent assessment comparing the outcomes of Paradigm’s cases to a case-matched set of claims from Milliman’s 60,000 claim benchmark workers’ compensation database and found five times higher medical outcomes.

The study considered return to work status for workers’ compensation claims as an outcome measure. Return to work is one of the many outcomes that Paradigm seeks. Paradigm’s definition of outcomes holistically includes health outcomes, home, community, relationships and return to productive activity as integrated measures of wellness. Subsequent financial outcomes are also of critical importance as they reflect fewer medical complications and care services in outbound years. In the Milliman study, lifetime costs were found to be 36% lower due to the achievement of higher-state acute medical outcomes.

Older Cases with Persisting Medical Conditions
Paradigm offers an unequaled solution for addressing cases with medical volatility and ongoing complications and has had considerable success in improving the medical and financial trajectories of these cases. In fact, typical results show medical improvement of 37%.

In an independent study by Milliman, Inc., consultants from the actuarial firm found that Paradigm lowered medical complications and, therefore, reduced the lifetime reserves of these cases. Specifically, the study found Paradigm lowered lifetime reserves by 29%, including 50% improvement in physician costs, 28% improvement in attendant care costs and 22% improvement in pharmacy costs.

Pain Management Outcomes
Paradigm’s medical management approach to pain can be applied at any stage in the pain lifecycle, yet early intervention yields the most significant results. The sooner we are able to intervene and course correct the problems, the better our results. In early intervention cases, we have an 84% success rate in getting workers back to work and a 48% rate of success getting them completely off of narcotics.

Even when cases have progressed for years, Paradigm’s success rates remain high. For cases that average six years outbound from the initial injury dates, we have succeeded in securing a rate of 34% for return to work, 53% off narcotics and a return on investment rate of 184%.
