What is Multiple Trauma?
The term multiple trauma refers to: car accidents, pedestrian/auto accidents, gunshot wounds, crush injuries, and falls. Simple trauma, such as a single cut or a simple broken bone can often be managed in a local hospital; however, when multiple simultaneous injuries occur (for example: multiple broken bones, crush injuries, bruised internal organs(liver, spleen, kidney) and lacerations, extensive bleeding, etc.) then the care required becomes much more complex and critical and treatment at a designated trauma center is usually indicated.
