Founded in 1991, Paradigm Management Service is the nation’s leader in providing catastrophic and complex medical management services. Based on a unique model called Systematic Care ManagementSM, Paradigm is the brain child of Dr. Nathan Cope, the former Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University Medical Center, Paradigm is distinct in its clinical and financial approach to medical management.

Over 20 years ago, Dr. Cope was struck by the fact that while doctors and the medicine they practiced were of very high quality, patients would at times suffer from the system in which care was delivered. Specifically, he saw inconsistencies between provider practices, numerous medical errors, missed information during handoffs and a fragmented system in need of a different approach.

Dr. Cope’s answer was to bundle the best medical knowledge and provide oversight in such a way that it would eliminate the fragmentation, ensure a comprehensive patient focus (biological, psychological and social), plan for and mitigate risks, and tie results into a performance-based management solution. Working in partnership with attending medical teams, Paradigm focuses on coordinating care and taking ownership for the results—an approach that works in our current system and fixes it from within.

Initially started as an organization specializing in brain injury, Paradigm has grown to offer services for all catastrophic or complex medical injuries including traumatic brain injuries, multiple traumas, spinal cord injuries, amputations, severe burns and wounds. Paradigm maintains a national network of consulting medical directors, specialists and nurse case managers along with contracted centers of excellence.

Headquartered in Walnut Creek, California, Paradigm has provided services for more than 10,000 medically complex cases, with a success rate of more than 99.7% in achieving or exceeding targeted outcomes. All of which have contributed to an extensive and sophisticated data repository which is used in the overall financial prediction and medical management of every catastrophic case.

Paradigm’s mission is to ensure the best results for people with complex medical needs. Our vision is to change the face of complex care by transforming the way results are achieved.
